PRINCESS NOKIA

“How I’m seeing myself now is kind of starting a new era of alternagirl, this whole new, epic, brown girl rock, girls with skateboards, moshing topless, girls who do what they want thing,”

Princess Nokia is from New York, her mother died from aids when she was young so she went into foster care. She ran away at 16, from her foster mother who had gotten away with abusing her for years. Yet she remains a soldier whose story serves as an inspiration for girls of all backgrounds.

She turned down five record deals because she felt that they just wanted her to give them hit after hit and not let her express herself how she wanted to. Her music is influenced by politics including; “Brujas” and “Kitana”. Her lyrics are about her being at one with herself and her Puerto Rican roots.
