BALMAIN X KANYE WEST
Pierre Balmain started his own house in 1941- 1981 with the signature style "Jolie Madame". In 2011 Olivier Rousteing became the house's creative director, he has pushed the brand forward and made it really relevant with people today.
Olivier Rousteing is also good friends with Kim Kardashian who has been dressed by Rousteing a number of times. He said in an interview that he loved to dress Kim because her shape is so different to the catwalk models he is used to dressing. He also said Kim is the type of women he sees his customers as; a strong, independent and successful business women.
I wanted to do a blog post about this as its different to way most brands promote themselves, Olivier Rousteing is very interested in music and saw how music could push Balmain forward. Collaborating with someone like Kanye West could be very risky as people tend to love or hate him. However, forgetting how you feel towards Kanye there's no doubt he's a very creative person. He has started as a successful rapper to owning his own brand "Yeezy" which he has done well to give it a very unique style and promoted the brand in a very different way, using the fact that he is a successful rapper to his advantage to create an experience for fans of him to watch a concert and fashion show all in one.
Olivier Rousteing heard Kanye Wests album and wanted to create a promotional video for Balmain with the song "wolves" with Kanye. The video features some of Olivier's favourite models and of course Kim and Kanye.
