Doc Martens started out as a working man’s boot. Then in the 1960’s people started wearing items which were traditionally working clothes for fashion such as; jeans and doc martens. Pete Townshend out of The Who was one of the first people to wear them as a statement of the pride of working class people and created the rebellious look of doc martens we all relate to them today. Doc Martens become as a massive part of the skinhead and punk era. They were the shoes everyone wore or wanted to show the rebellion of the generation. At this time there was a big divide between working class and upper class Dr Marten was a huge part of the rebellion which makes the shoes so timeless and a big part of British fashion heritage.
