Sandra Backlund

Sandra Backlund is a swedish fashion designer, who is known for her sculptural knitwear. She graduated from Beckman's College of Design in 2004 and set up her own label in the same year. In some of Backlund's garments you can see what has inspired her. Like with this garment by the shape and material you can see it is inspired by reptile shapes and movement.

In her F/W2010 collection her designs look like they are inspired by old Japanese amour. With the big ribbed shoulder pads. She used traditional techniques like knitting and origami without the classical mind frame.

In Sandra Backlund's S/S2011 collection she used metal yarn, this shows how she likes to use futuristic materials to give a sci-fi look to her garments. Sandra often uses muted colours or nudes in her collections this is because she finds these colours bring extra attention to the shape and silhouette of the garments.

Backlund exaggerates, highlights and distorts from the human form with her clothing and accessories, she uses heavy wool, paper and even hair to create futuristic looking garments.
